With its launch in 2006 italki is probably one of the oldest language learning marketplaces & communities around. Today, the italki team announced a fresh round of angel funding for their service and also relaunched the website.
In its new version italki focuses even more on helping students to find the right language tutor or teacher. italki now clearly differentiates between professional online teachers, informal community tutors and free language exchange partners. This gives learners three options for their personal learning and budget: free in exchange, mid-priced for an informal tutor and regular pricing for a professional language teacher.
According to italki more than 900,000 people are using the the service to learn and teach languages. Mobile apps are in the making.
Of course, we are going to publish a more detailed review of the relaunched service in the coming days.
